🙋🏽♀️ 25 years in tech too. This resonates so much. The only thing I cling to is that progress is never linear and the things I was subjected to early in my career will never happen again (it seems so surreal to think of how I was treated and just accepted it!)
True, I also think that some things that happened back in the day wouldn't fly today DEI or not. Thankfully society as a whole has moved on and changed. #metoo had a a big impact even if we're not at the end of the road
Oh yeah. The p@rn one guy used to play in an attempt to put me off my game when I was making cold calls (I was in sales) and making provocative faces at me and the rest of “the boys” thought it was hilarious. My god.
Female software engineer who finally had enough last year. As in, I am too traumatized to even make it through an interview. I cried during one when two women asked me to not mention the abuse I'd faced over and over in my career to the men who were about to interview me next. Didn't have any other way to explain bouncing around to so many jobs. Yes, I understand it's a game but I'm not up to the task anymore. I just can't be anything but real about it.
I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope you find something better to do with your live. The field doesn't seem to be improving unfortunately and a lot of women prefer to leave for their sanity. 🤗
